Possibly one of Australias brightest and loudest birds. Today's photograph is of two lorikeets resting and preening each other in a gum-tree.

These birds live on a diet of pure sugar, and rejoice in loud calls and energetic activities around NSW. Their bright colours certainly reflect their personalities and they are slowly becoming a favourite pet ( Read more... )

Eastern Grassland Owls, are known for their long legs that enable them to live predominantly on the ground and also navigate the Boggs and marshlands within forests along the eastern coast of Australia.

Today's bird is a Regent Honey-eater.

On a recent run of good luck, I was able to find the critically endangered bird North of Sydney, on the Central Coast. Although intensely hard to photograph, these birds are like a small child full of sugar. Literally swinging from the trees, and in this case scrub.

In NSW if you look very hard, and for a long time in the right place you will find a Rose Crowned Fruit Pigeon/Dove. Particularly where large Camphor-laurel trees grow, as they like to eat the fruit from it.

Fruit doves in NSW are a very rare sight. Their numbers seem to be declining as well. Although that sounds very concerning the NSW government ( Read more... )

After a very long search, I was able to find a very interesting bird for today.

The Eastern Koal, is a species of Cuckoo and are known for a specific behaviour. Cuckoo birds lay a single egg in another birds nest, after hatching they take over the nest. The bewildered much smaller parents then undertake massive efforts to feed what is slowly ( Read more... )
